Too Close to Home

You always think those things will never happen to you or they'll never happen in your town. There is a relatively small university in my town. Today there was a shooting there. One student was shot and is in critical condition. So far the shooters have not been caught. I used to work at this university and my best friend still does. The shooting occured within a matter of 10-20 feet from the building she works in. Thank God she was inside when it happened. Has anyone else had any of these too close to home or too close for comfort happenings?

New Career Path?

On the way home from work & school today, we saw a school bus. Twin A said he would ride in one some day. He said he wanted me to ride with him, but I told him I didn't ride in the school bus. He suggested that I should become a school bus driver. So, have your kids, friends or a misguided guidance counselor offered you any interesting career advice?

Girls Night Out

That's me on the left and my best friend on the right. We went out for a few hours last night and had a girls night out. It was so nice to go out with adults only! Nights like these keep me sane enough to deal with my twin tornadoes for the rest of the time.

What Erin Means

What Erin Means
You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

Girl Scout Cookies...

are one of my many downfalls! At $3.50 a box, thank goodness I can't afford too many. I bought one box of thin mints and one box of samoas (the ones with chocolate, caramel & coconut). Tonight I opened the box of samoas. Granted there are only 15 in the box, but the boys and I ate ALL of them! I can't believe I got them to go to bed with all that sugar running rampant in their bodies! I will NOT be sharing the thin mints. I haven't even opened them yet for fear that I will do the same thing and eat all of them by myself. Another thing I don't share is my mint chocolate chip ice cream. Anything with mint and chocolate is MINE...ALL MINE...Mwahahahaha. So, what do you share with your kids or friends and what will you absolutely NOT share with anyone?

Fun with Markers

Sunday morning the kids got up REALLY early, so I let them come to my room to watch cartoons. Well, I fell back to sleep. I was in and out of sleep when all of a sudden I hear Twin A say "I don't think I want to mark on my peenie"! What?!? I was instantly out of bed to assess the situation. Both boys were completely naked and Twin B had permanent black marker all over his forehead, his cheeks, a small part of his chest, the bottoms of his feet, and yes, his "peenie"! What to do??? I immediately put both of them in the bath and scrubbed as hard as I could. I got most of the marker off his face and decided clothes would cover the rest and it could just naturally wear away! The other marker problem? It's also in 3 large places on my beige carpet. So far I have succeeded in smearing it by trying to clean it with Oxy. I am still trying 2 days later to clean these spots. A friend of mine told me the first mistake I made was using Oxy in the first place, but since I'd already used it to just keep with it. I'm making a mental note to get rid of ALL permanent markers in the house. I have some of those great Crayola ones that only mark on the special Crayola paper. I'm so greatful for those now. So, does anyone have any great advice for getting permanent marker out of carpet or kids???

Roasting Marshmallows

This morning when I went into the boys room to get them ready, they had pulled the chairs away from their desk and were sitting beside one of their beds. They were roasting marshmallows! Each time I took one away to get him dressed he'd tell the other one not to eat all the marshmallows. I just don't remember being that creative as a kid. Were you? Were your kids? I sure hope they keep that creativity as they get older.

Pictures

I was looking at some pictures from an event we went to last fall. I thought I'd post a couple of the boys riding horses. They had so much fun. The first one is Twin B riding Blue and the second one is Twin A riding Charlie. I thought we'd never get them away from those horses!

This Old Dog Goes to Heaven

On the way home from school today Twin B said he wanted to watch a dog movie. I told him we had Lady and the Tramp or All Dogs Go to Heaven. Twin A immediately says he wants to watch Lady and the Tramp, so of course Twin B has to disagree. He said he wanted to watch This Old Dog Goes to Heaven! I just love their little language mistakes. So, you may ask what movie we ended up watching...why, Shrek, of course! I have figured out never to try to delve into the mind or logic of a 3 year old. Somehow we went from dogs to dragons. The only connection I see there is that they both start with the letter b, but then again, I'm not 3!

Survivor

So the new season of Survivor started tonight. I'm so glad Johnny Fairplay was the first to go!!! I am still very much in lust with Ozzy and James. I'm glad Yau-Man found the idol again - and busted Fairplay's head to get it! I'm not too sure about crazy lady Kathy from the Airai tribe that found the idol. She seems a little too eager and has a foot in mouth problem! I do like Joel (?), the firefighter from the Malakal tribe. He seems like he might give James a run for his money! Speaking of Ozzy...did anyone else notice his "treasure trail"??? I wouldn't mind finding out what's buried there!!! And kudos to Yau Man for starting a fire with his glasses. The faves tribe seemed really put together when it came to building their shelther and getting food and water. I guess they really were too over confident to win that challenge. And what about these love matches between Parvati & James and Amanda & Ozzy??? They better keep their hands off! They're my men!!!

Pulling the Train into the Station

This morning I was trying to get the boys dressed. I had Twin B dressed and ready to go, and Twin A had his clothes off ready to get dressed. I look around to find him and he's running around naked on his hobby horse LOL! I told him it was time to get dressed and he said "Just a minute, mommy. I have to park my train"! At least I got a good laugh out of my hectic get everybody ready and out the door schedule.

I'm scary

We had a thunderstorm roll through tonight. It didn't last very long, but Twin A didn't like the thunder and lightning one bit. He climbed up in my lap and told me he was scary of the thunder and light-ing. Bless his heart. I told him there was nothing to be afraid of - it was just loud. Luckily it didn't last any longer than it did or he may have been scary all night!

Don't say thanks...just clap!

I was fixing dinner tonight and Twin B appeared to be doing the pee-pee dance. I told him to go to the potty. A few minutes later I heard evidence of somebody going potty. Twin A pipes up that he has gone pee-pee in the potty. Twin B says thanks (apparently he thought if Twin A went potty that would be good enough for me)! Twin A says "Don't say thanks. Just clap" LOL! So Twin B obligingly claps for him. I couldn't help but laugh until I was crying! Twin B eventually went potty too. I think I should just have a continuous video feed in this house to remember these things...and bribe them with them later!!!
