These were taken Saturday at the Holiday parade and State Capitol lighting ceremony. The kids had fun watching the parade. They also did a few crafts and had free cookies and hot chocolate. It was really cold, and they were both starting to get a little cranky and impatient for the lighting ceremony. After the lights were turned on on the Capitol building there was a fireworks show. This was the first time the boys have seen a live fireworks show. They were in awe! They both said all the waiting and freezing was worth it to see the fireworks. I wish I'd been able to get some better pictures of them in and around the Capitol, but they don't like to stand still too long for me :D!
What are you and your families doing for the holidays? We usually get up to see what Santa brought the boys. We'll play for a little while then get cleaned up and go to my parents' house for brunch and more presents for the boys. Hopefully it will be a pretty laid back day.

Some cute stuff

Some of the cute things the boys have said recently:

We have been looking for a new artificial Christmas tree. We left a store the other day without one because I didn't like any of the ones I saw there. On the way home in the car, Twin A said "Why can't we just get an axe and cut down our own?"

On the way home the other day Twin B was looking out the car window at the moon and said "Mommy, I see a fingernail in the sky."

Tonight we went over to a friend's. Just as we pulled up outside her place, Twin A got a bloody nose. After we had been inside for a few minutes I noticed he wasn't holding tissue up to his nose anymore. I asked him if it had quit bleeding. He said "I think so. I can stick my finger up there and check if you want me to."

The Brave Cowboys

Twin B is on the left and Twin A is on the right. They couldn't wear their Halloween costumes to school today, so the school district found a way around it. Today the kids dressed up as their favorite book characters. Twin B decided early on that he was going to dress up as The Brave Cowboy. Twin A couldn't decide who he wanted to dress up as and eventually decided on The Brave Cowboy as well. I wish the pics were better. I took them with my phone, so they quality is very poor. Twin A is really blurry in the top pic, but Twin B's pose was priceless so I had to post it!
It has rained so much here lately. Lots of areas are flooded today and it's still raining. I probably won't be taking the guys trick or treating tomorrow, but several churches nearby are having trunk or treat, so we may go trunk or treating again! I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!!!

Trunk or Treat

We went to trunk or treat with a friend this past Saturday night. The boys had so much fun. They had a chili cookoff and lots of activities for kids inside the church. Outside, people decorated the trunks of their cars and handed out candy in the parking lot. They raked in the candy. A good time was had by all. I got to visit with adults which is really nice sometimes, and the kids got to run around and play with all of the other kids. The best part though was that Sunday morning they slept until 7:30!!! Usually they're up a good hour before that.

School...so far

This is for Robin! You asked for it...Kindergarten has been a little frustrating to say the least. I requested that both boys be held back in Pre-K. I just didn't feel like they were ready for Kindergarten. Apparently if a student is deemed ready for Kindergarten in the Little Rock School District, he can't be held back by a parent. Strange. Now that they're in Kindergarten they're both struggling a little. Twin A, who I've never had any major behavior issues with all of a sudden became a "bad" kid (at least I felt he had been given that label by his teacher). His teacher called me 2 or 3 times in the first 2 weeks of school. Twin B was misbehaving a lot too. I was hoping that maybe they just needed time to adjust to the more rigid structure of Kindergarten. In Pre-K they pretty much got to play all day, and now they're expected to sit still for long periods of time. No such luck. Both boys were having trouble sitting still and focusing long enough to get any of their work done. They can identify only a few letters and numbers. Both teachers were taken aback when I told them I requested they be held back. Clearly they aren't ready for Kindergarten. I guess I could have pushed the issue, but I didn't. If they had been full term babies, they would have been born after the cutoff date and would be in Pre-K this year. After visiting with both teachers and their pediatrician, both boys have been diagnosed with ADHD. I really have mixed feelings about this. I always kind of thought ADHD was just a bogus diagnosis. I just thought it was kids being kids. I struggled a lot about whether to medicate them or not. I eventually decided to go with the medicine. It seems to have made quite a difference at school. I still feel like they're behind most of their classmates though. Maybe their teachers this year will agree with me that they're not ready to advance to first grade. I know there's a lot of time until the end of the school year and maybe they'll catch up. At the very least, maybe with the ADHD diagnosis, their teachers won't label them as "bad" and will work a little harder with them instead of writing them off. They've only been on the meds for about 2 weeks, so hopefully I'll keep seeing improvements.

That's our school year so far in a nutshell!

Kindergarten

My guys started Kindergarten at a new school this year. Twin B was a little apprehensive. He even said on the way to school yesterday that he hoped he didn't cry. He didn't! Yay! Twin A slipped on some wet grass getting out of the car, but he didn't do any major damage. He was a little upset, but was fine by the time we got into the school. We were running late yesterday, so I didn't get pics of their first day, and today it was raining so I didn't get any pics either (I wanted to take them outside). So, maybe tomorrow will be the day. They'll be wearing their school t-shirts tomorrow anyway, so maybe that's the day I was meant to take pics! I'm still having a hard time believing they're in Kindergarten and 5 years old!!! I'm sure in no time at all I'll be bemoaning the fact that they're leaving me for college. I'll definitely need plenty of kleenex on hand for that day.

How did everyone else's back to school routine go?

Graduates

The top picture was taken Wednesday at the boys' Pre-K graduation. The other 2 are their first day of Pre-K in August. I can't believe how much they've grown up. They still had a little bit of a baby look when they started school, but they just look like little men now. They're growing up too fast!

Say What?

Overheard in the backseat on the way home from birthday parties:

Twin B: Is your nose bleeding?
Twin A: *Looks at his thumb*
Mom: Laughs really hard

A sign of the poor economy?

Yesterday the boys and I went to get haircuts. It was raining cats and dogs, so of course I took my umbrella in with me. After we all got our haircuts and it was time to go, my umbrella was gone. I couldn't believe someone would steal an umbrella! There was another one there, but I guess mine was better. Is this a sign of the poor economy or are people just that low that they would steal someone else's umbrella?!?

Multiples Day at the Zoo

Yesterday was Multiples Day at the zoo. We had a lot of fun, and there were twins and triplets everywhere! Here are some pics of the day. The first pic is a set of twins whose parents I'm trying to talk into an arranged marriage with my boys. Aren't they darling? The next two are pictures of us trying to get all the twins and triplets to sit for a group picture. As you can see, it was very sunny and my guys were trying to keep the sun out of their eyes!

BS Detector?

The other day we were leaving my parents' house and Twin B asked my dad where his dad was. My dad told him that his dad was dead. Then he asked him where his mom was, so my dad told him where she lived. The conversation progressed as follows:

Twin B: What's your mom's name?
Dad: Her name is Ruby. She's very sick.
Twin B: What's wrong with her?
Dad: Well, she's just very sick. She can't get around very well, she's going blind and she talks like this (mumbles incoherently)
Twin B: Okay, mommy, we can go now. Bye, G-Dad.
.
.
.
As we're driving away:

Twin B: G-Dad was just kidding. I bet his mom's name isn't Ruby and his dad probably isn't even dead.

I'm glad we weren't out of the neighborhood yet, because I laughed so hard I was in tears!

So, what's the funniest thing your kid has said lately?

Shoes

Shoes make me happy! I went to the shoe store yesterday to get some new sandals for spring and summer. Last time I went to this particular store I didn't see anything I liked for me but I did get two pair of sandals for the boys. This time I found lots of sandals I liked. Luckily for me it was buy one get one half off, so I got 4 pair of sandals! I'm just giddy about my new shoes. I felt like a little kid last night alternating between all of them. I think I wore each pair at some point during the night!

My Little Stuarts (pics as promised)

Today the boys went to school dressed as their favorite book character. They both chose Stuart Little. I was a little disappointed that people thought they were bunnies...those are MOUSE ears people! I drew whiskers on them with liquid eyeliner and made mouse ears out of pink and white paper plates and a headband. I was pretty proud of my not-so-crafty self!

MIA

Wow...it's been a while! I don't really have anything blog-worthy right now, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still alive and well! Most of my posting and blog reading has been done at work in the past, but BIG BROTHER is watching now :( so I don't get much time to post or read anymore. I will try to get some new pics up soon. This coming Friday the boys get to dress up as their favorite book character for school, so hopefully I'll have some cute pictures of them to post. I miss everyone!

5-5-5

I've been tagged by Alyse! The rules are simple...Find the 5th pic in your 5th pic folder and share then tag 5 friends. This works out great for me because this is a pic I wanted to share anyway! This was taken over the weekend. It was so nice this weekend that we got to spend a lot of time outside. I think the boys' eyes look a little funky in this picture, but I still love it.
My turn! I tag:
1. Desiree
2. Robin
3. Natasha (Spy)
4. Kelley
5. ??? Do I even have another reader?!?

Funny? Tasteless? Disrespectful? You decide!

I saw this sign in a fairly ritzy part of town. I couldn't believe my eyes. So...what do you think?

Willpower

This post got me to thinking about willpower. I've never been good at dieting by myself. I'll eat lean cuisines for a while then give up completely. I have never found a form of exercise that I HATE little enough to continue. I joined Weight Watchers years ago and lost enough weight and kept it off long enough to become a lifetime member. I don't know whether to be proud of that or not LOL! I do much better with a structure program like Weight Watchers though because I have to be accountable to someone. You have to weigh in once a week. It's also easier for me if I diet (or exercise) with someone else. Again, you have to be accountable to someone else besides yourself.

How's your willpower? What do you do to keep yourself in line?

Naps

I used to never take naps before I had kids. Now I relish nap time! Whether I take a nap or do something else productive, it's my quiet time without the kids treating me like a jungle gym! The boys unfortunately rarely take a nap anymore. This weekend was different though. They took naps Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday it didn't look like they were going to take a nap, so I announced I was going upstairs to take a nap. I got in the bed followed shortly by the 2 dogs. Shortly after that Twin B comes up the stairs and says he wants to take a nap with me in my bed, so I told him to hop in and BE QUIET! Twin A, not wanting to be left out pops in not too much later to nap with us. Let's count this up...1 adult, 2 smallish dogs and 2 4 year olds. Poor Twin A was curled up at the bottom of the bed. We all had a nice nap though. Maybe I have found the key to getting the boys to take naps - just take one myself and they will soon follow! I hope everyone else had a restful weekend too.

Imagination

My guys have the biggest imaginations. I just don't remember being as creative as them when I was little. This morning when we got to school, there was a funny shaped rock on the ground. Twin B picked it up with a look of complete awe and said "I found a dinsosaur toe"! I oohed and aahed with him about his latest archeological find. Where does that creativity come from? If they got it from me, mine must be well hidden!

Turn that Music Down!

Last night (technically really early this morning) a friend and I were listening to some music on my computer. I had my door shut, but the boys' room is right across the hall. I guess it was turned up a little too loud. Next thing I know I hear Twin B calling for me. I turned the music off and went to the door. He looked sleepily up at me and told me to go to bed! He said "I can't sleep with that loud music. Turn it off and go to bed!" As if that wasn't bad enough, my friend promptly pointed out that this situation would likely be reversed in about 10 years. It's been many, many years since someone has asked me to turn down the music! I can't believe it was from a 4 year old this time.

Has anything like that ever happened to you where you felt like the parent/child roles were reversed?

It's Just a Costume

Has everyone seen Men in Black? Well, I felt a little bit like I was wearing an Edgar suit last night! When we got home, Twin A was REALLY hungry. I was trying to get the collars and leashes on the dogs to take them for a walk since they'd been inside all day long. He wanted to know how come I wasn't fixing his dinner yet. I told him I had to take the dogs out first. He got really frustrated and started saying a bunch of nonsense stuff. Then he said "You're not even an adult. It's just a costume"! I laughed so hard. These boys never cease to amaze me with the things they say.

Another thing they've both started talking about lately is Homa Homa. I thought maybe they were mispronouncing Oklahoma, but they insist there is a place called Homa Homa where displaced mice can live. Yep, you read that right. If a mouse can't find a hole to live in, all he has to do is pack up and move to Homa Homa because evidently they have an abundance of mouse housing!

I'm Such an Ass!

The other day in the car the boys were particularly rowdy. I know, 4 year olds being rowdy? Go figure. They got into an argument about something and Twin B hit Twin A. Then they were going back and forth and wouldn't stop. Grrrrr!!! Twin B finally got in one final parting shot on Twin A and I yelled at him "One of these days he's gonna hit your ass back and I hope it hurts". He just kind of shook his head and said "I didn't hit him in the ass, mommy". I generally try to keep my language clean around the kiddos and whenever I let something slip, this is the kind of thing that happens. Now who feels like an ass?!?
